Data Doesn't Lie: How to Scientifically Validate a Paper Tube's "Freshness" Promise
“Lock in freshness,” “extended preservation”—the marketing claims are endless. But for brands and discerning consumers, how do you verify if a paper tube’s protective promise is real? The answer lies not in slogans, but in the hard data of the laboratory.
Verification starts with testing the materials themselves. Water Vapor Transmission Rate (WVTR) and Oxygen Transmission Rate (OTR) tests quantify exactly how well the liner blocks moisture and oxygen. An aluminum foil laminate can achieve an OTR near zero, while a standard coated paper tube may show values orders of magnitude higher. This is the foundation of barrier performance.
Next, we examine the entire package’s seal integrity. Data from just a few weeks can scientifically predict performance over months or even a year under normal storage conditions.
These rigorous tests build the essential bridge of trust between packaging design and a product’s safe journey to market. By simulating real-world hazards—such as vibration, compression, moisture, and temperature fluctuations—laboratories verify that a paper tube can withstand the toughest shipping environments. Without this evidence, even the most innovative design remains an unproven promise.
